Vintage Billboards

For this PhotoshoCafe Design Challenge we had to develop a period style billboard using Photoshop as the theme. I chose a vintage 1910 period for one and a 1960′s retro style for the other. Again I did some exhaustive research into the typefaces, terminology, and styles of the periods.

For the vintage design I bought some antique typefaces from Letterhead Fonts just for the occasion. I found this old Plenax camera by bjearwicke and this painter’s palette by jr_south (both at stock.xchng). I also owe a debt of thanks to Gary Godby at iStock for his wonderful vector accents.

For the retro design I used a lady from this classic Chiffon TP ad at Flickr.com (courtesy of bayswater97, Vintage Advertising Group), and the hand is from a great old Parker Pen advertisment at penoply (courtesy of Rick Conner). Thanks guys!

Unfortunately, neither of these designs even made the finals, but there was one consolation prize. Since I had used the Billhead font in my vintage billboard Letterhead Fonts contacted me and asked if they could display that design in their gallery.

Of course I said yes!
