The FatBirds

Originally I had developed a character to use as a mascot on my old portfolio site, but when that site was built (by my good friend Phil Neal) that all changed. The inspiration for the birds came from these two fat ceramic birds (one is small, the other large) which I bought as a Mother’s Day present for my mom.

One day while I was doodling around in Illustrator I was thinking about these birds (which my mom took to calling ‘the fatbirds’) and so I started drawing them. At this time Phil was building my folio site and I was sending him my artwork and without a word I began to notice these two birds appearing everywhere (he even had them be-bopping together as the download icons).

Thanks to Phil these guys have become my mascots for Doug Draws. They have added character and personality to the site in a way I never could have by myself.
