Project Description:
The local owner of Mario’s wanted me to design a logo for his pizza shop. He wanted it to be fun, inviting, and friendly. As sometimes happens I get this picture in my head immediately of what the design should be, usually while the client is describing what he wants. So I began drawing sketches of Mario. I have to admit he was definitely influenced by the portly plumber of countless Nintendo games.
My inspiration for the car came from Benny—the whacky cab in the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Back then I did not have a computer so the artwork you are seeing here is actually a remake (done in Illustrator) of the original design which I drew on Bristol board.
The client was well pleased and since this was only my second logo job I got paid in free pizzas! Not a bad deal for a starving single guy at the time.
